The 2011 MDEA Fall Conference will be a cooperative endeavor between the MDEA and the MDE Department of Career and Technical Education.

10:30 – 11:30 am         Breakout Session 1 –Integration and use of Data from Revit.” Chris Quattrin—MC2

 The family elements in Revit contain data that can be leveraged for additional use in such software as MC2 ICE Estimating, MS Projects scheduling, and a variety of cost control and accounting software.  Approaching the design knowing the end use will organize a seamless and simple movement of data.  There are simple techniques that can be taught which will provide basic understanding of moving data from Revit to these other platforms.  The use of text tab delimited, comma separated formats to develop flat files, and MS Excel make up the basic tools needed and the focus of what students need to learn.

 

                                       Breakout Session 2 — “Learn How to Prepare, Engage, and Inspire you  Students!” Amy Griitzinger– Studica.

Participants of this session will learn the scope and potential of the free Autodesk Digital STEAM Workshop curriculum. This includes professionally developed instructional videos, interactive “real-world” projects and “video game-like” lessons with 3D models, and a Digital Study Packet that supports the Autodesk Certification program. Help students better understand fundamental design principles without having to be a software expert.

12:30 – 1:30 pm           Breakout Session 3– “Turn your classroom into a Robotics laboratory using LEGO® and TETRIX.™” Ivery Toussant– Lego Education, Patrick Veine– Coloma Community Schools

Imagine it! Build it! Teach it!   Exploring everything from simple robotic machines to computer programmable autonomous robots, the LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Education NXT and TETRIX™ sets, software and activities are powerful tools that convert your classroom into a hands-on, minds-on robotics laboratory.  Educators will learn how to model real-life mechanisms and use creativity, logic and problem-solving skills while experiencing firsthand how robotic activities can be used to teach standards in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

                                        Breakout Session 4– “Square One Education Network: Merging CTE and STEM-Challenges and Grants for Schools” Karl Klimek

The Square One Education Network is a Michigan based Foundation that invests funding and expertise in K-12 schools throughout the region.  Karl Klimek, Executive Director will unveil the exciting opportunities that are ready for you and your students to connect to.  From hybrid electric vehicles, gas to electric conversions, underwater robots and even easy grants to consider, Square One stands ready to help you bring additional pizzaz to your classroom!

1:45 – 2:45 pm                Breakout Session 5 — Transportation and Civil Engineering (TRAC) - Free Hands-on Materials!  Jan Pohl– MDOT

TRAC Program is sponsored by the Michigan Department of Transportation to introduce students to Civil Engineering and Transportation careers.  TRAC is a hands-on education program designed for use in science, math, and social studies classes.  This session will consist of a presentation explaining the program and a demonstration of one of the modules (training kits).   FREE!
